Vehicle Crossing Guidance and Self Assessment
Depending where you live will decide which procedure to follow. Both West Sussex and Hampshire have guidance on websites with application forms and guidelines and their links are as follows:
The example of a cross over that we completed recently on the right of this page had some environmental impacts with the roots of the tree and the distance from the front garden to the drop down kerb. It met the requirements of the Local Authority and was successfully completed to the agreed cost estimate.
Distance From Road Junctions
The location of the crossover can often affect the outcome of an application due to the impact on the road traffic and pedestrians. If the location of the proposed crossing is closer than 10m to a road junction it would create a serious hazard and the application may be refused. This dimension may be increased to 15m on major roads or near busy junctions.
If the property is situated directly on the junction of two roads, it will generally be safer to situate the access on the minor, side road. Accordingly you may be asked to amend your proposals to comply with this requirement.
An excellent guide on cross overs is shown HERE and can be downloaded for future information. For a further example of a crocssover that we have recently completed see here.
